Secrets to Discover Your Gifted Place in Business – PART TWO

Unlock the C.O.D.E.S. to Your Unique Gifts and Create Generational Wealth.

One of my most favorite topics is finding your gifted place in business. In a world where people are telling us who we should and shouldn’t be, I really want us to identify with who God says we are and how we are uniquely created to:

  • affect change,
  • make a world impact,
  • expand the kingdom of God, and
  • do it in a way that is unique to us.

You may be asking, “What is my gifted place in business?” Well, I’m gonna help unravel that by sharing the five different components to discovering your gifted place and debriefing each one.

The five Secrets to Discover Your Gifted Place in Business are:

#1 - How your personality is incorporated into and connected to everything;  #2 - What it means to tap into your spiritual gifts; #3 - Knowing which environments your gifts truly thrive in; #4 - Connecting your passions to your business; and #5 - How your experiences relate to everything.

I was talking to my daughter the other day – she is a freshman in college and she’s in those stages where she is discovering who she is and who God has called her to be. There’s a lot of questions going on in her head. As Christian business owners, many of us find ourselves in that place too – regardless if we’re just starting out in our business, or if we are seasoned entrepreneurs.

Why?

Because, again, we’re growing from level to level, from understanding to wisdom, and learning how to apply knowledge in a way that is unique to who God has called us to be.

When we’re in those places, we have questions and we’re trying to figure it out – just like my daughter. She is trying to figure it out and as she was trying to figure it out, I challenged her to not conform. Just because an industry seemed like it offered more money or the trends were swaying her to look at a different path, she needs to stay true to who she is and what God has called her to do.

I gave her an example of a key. She is like a key. Each of us goes through different things in our life that shape that key. There are thousands of keys out there and those keys go to different things. They go to garages, houses, lock boxes, etc. There’s so many places that those keys go to, and there’s no two keys that are alike. Every key has its own unique design to fit in the keyhole that it was designed to unlock. The same is true for us.

Experiences shape us!

As we go through different experiences, we want to pay attention to what are we interested in.

What are some of the experiences that really grabbed our attention?

What are some of those encounters with people that really ignited a fire in our bellies?

I shared with my daughter that each of those experiences have been shaping her up to this point and has been shaping the grooves of her key. Her key is designed to unlock certain doors and she needs to stay focused on the door that her key is meant to unlock.

The same is true for us as entrepreneurs!

What are those grooves of our unique key that helps us to unlock the doors to the places and the rooms that God has destined for us to stand in? Those places we’ve been called to be a lighthouse, like a city set on the hilltop. What does that look like for us? I want us to really tap into that by first and foremost, really understanding what is our personality.

Let me define what personality is.

Our personality is the inward and outward expression of emotional traits and characteristics that shape who we are and how we interact with the world. Some of our personalities are really big! We are real extroverts. We love the spotlight. We love the stage. We love being around people, and are very expressive.

Then you have those who are more introverted and really love being by themselves. They love being in their thoughts. They love reading a good book. They love their quiet time. They love being in the background versus being in the limelight.

The reason I bring this up as we are discovering our gifted place in business is that a lot of times we try to shy down because we’re not a certain personality and we try to be something that we’re not. So many times we’re like, “well, I’m not an extrovert, so I can’t do X, Y, Z” or “I’m shy, so I can’t do X, Y, Z”.

The thing is, we never want to use our personality as an excuse to not show up in our God-given assignment. God gave you that unique personality on purpose. He knew what he was doing when he shaped you, when he molded you in your mother’s womb. He called you to this earth for a specific assignment. He knew what he was doing!

So when we look at the different personalities, a lot of times, people want to try and discard their personalities, right? But listen, we all have unique personalities so to discard that, it’s like taking out an ingredient of something that we really should be paying attention to because it makes us who we are.

Think about Moses and his personality. Who walked alongside him that was the opposite personality yet complemented him? Aaron!

Moses was more of an introvert. Aaron was more of an extrovert.

What about Mary? Who comes to mind as her opposite? Of course, her sister Martha!

Let’s think about Paul. Who comes to mind after Paul? Barnabas.

Paul was more of that introverted personality, and Barnabas was more of that extroverted friend.

It’s so important for us to call that forward, because even though Moses may have been introverted, he was called to lead. He was called to speak and influence leaders of a government, and to proclaim the word of God which was God wanted his people to be set free.

That's why I say we can't use being an introvert as an excuse!

What about the extroverts?

I find that many extroverts feel like they’re too much. People even tell them that they’re too much so they try to cover up their “too muchness”. But, we need you to be that bold, beautiful personality that you are, because that’s what makes you unique!

It makes you an exuberant speaker. It makes you the one who is able to partner with the opposite personality, and that’s what makes a beautiful partnership.

So that’s the first thing – to really understand what is your unique personality. Once you know that, write that down and then understand that is an ingredient to really discovering your gifted place in business.

As you can see, I’m super passionate about helping entrepreneurs discover their gifted place in business. So much so that I couldn’t even list the other four points in this blog post.
